Who am I?

Mitsuka Shimazu grew up in a mixed race household, using painting and crafts as her emotional outlet and as a away to connect to her Japanese culture across the ocean.

In 2018 she found her passion for 3D design at Art foundation, in somerset, UK. Following this, she took her first trip to south east Asia, starting her journey of finding the feeling of “home”

Mitsuka Graduated with a First Degree in 3D design and Craft at Brighton University 2021.
Her time spent at university was spent on personal projects and passions including, Climate anxiety, racism, and abortion.

Her Degree Show was an ode to her relationship with ceramics and how it helped heal her mental health after having an abortion, and reimaging how abortion is represented in the world and media.

Post Graduation, over the span of 2.5 years, Mitsuka took an internship then a managerial and Teaching role at SETUNGKU Ceramics (Ubud, Bali), while simultaneously making trips to Japanese Villages to learn advanced skills from ceramics masters. Deepening her practice with pottery as well as immersing herself in traditional culture.

March 2025, saw Mitsuka taking on a Tutor and Technician role at THE MUD HOUSE , (Brighton, UK) running beginner and advanced courses and community centered workshops. She continues to work on her teaching practice alongside her personal practice, refining skills and knowledge everyday.
